"An orange circle where it doesn't belong." This is not just a collection of photographs, it is an exploration of the unexpected. It is an obsession, focusing solely on one subject matter over and over again to see how far it can be taken. It is an attempt to put an object into places it has never been before, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Conceptualized and shot from 2020 - 2023, Hoop World Vol. 1. is the debut collection from Brooklyn, NY based multimedia artist, Douglas McCurdy. Over 40,000 miles were traveled in the creation of this collection including locations such as Joshua Tree, Central Park, Australia and the tallest sand dunes in North America located in Southern Colorado. All hoops were either found in the wild or physically placed by Douglas using zip ties, magnets, tape or thrown in the air.
